experience Wine Country

Our wine country

Discover EPIC Wine Country in Southern Ontario — a welcoming region with over 14 wineries, just a short drive from Windsor and Detroit. Whether you’re planning a relaxed day trip or an overnight escape, wine country has never been closer.

Essex County is Ontario’s warmest and sunniest growing region, allowing grapes to ripen beautifully and express the character of our terroir. With 14 wineries to explore, visitors will find a wide range of wine styles and varietals.

EPIC wineries come together to host four annual events, offering an engaging way to experience the region. Visit epicwineries.com for winery details, event listings, and maps.

Nearby towns add even more to your visit. Amherstburg charms with its waterfront, boardwalk, dining, and historic Fort Malden, while Kingsville offers great food, accommodations, and nightlife — perfect after a full day of wine touring.

 so many things to do

A few ideas for you to plan your trip here

guided tours

Leave the driving and decision making to someone else! Grapevine Tours is a local tour company who runs driving tours across the county.

food & drink

Peruse some local food stands along the wine route. Essex County grows a lot of great fruit and veg and it’s available throughout the summer. Visit WindsorEats and review our local Food and Drink Guide for a more comprehensive listing of our incredible restaurants, wineries, distilleries, breweries, and coffee stops.

accomodations

heck out some nearby bed and breakfasts such as The Lake House or Walnut Grove B & B. The lakefront is dotted with rental cottages as close as the next street over which can be found via VRBO or AirBnB. For larger numbers of rooms – consider The Grove (2 locations) or The Banded Goose. For those travelling al fresco – consider Lungovita beach retreat where glamping is the way to stay.

Crave city nightlife? Hotels and motels in Windsor are only a half an hour drive away from the winery.

bike rentals

Bike the Wine Trail and enjoy the sprawling farmland and shoreline as you visit the Wineries. Rent a bike or ebike or bring your own to enjoy the ride.

There are light challenge courses around the County here or nearby trails at the Libro Center in Amherstburg

If staying in Windsor join a fun Friday Night Lights bike ride around town.

bird watching

Our Hawks Flight Series wines are a nod to the majestic Hawks that visit our property along their migration path in the fall.

Holiday Beach Migration Observatory is next door and has a hawk tower that can bring you much closer to flight level of the birds.

In the spring, we recommend Point Pelee National Park as the best place to experience the influx of different bird types.

kayaking

Kayak or canoe to or from Holiday Beach and take the scenic route along the shoreline of Lake Erie to Sprucewood Shores walk-in beachfront. For a longer and more challenging getaway, meander your way along beautiful River Canard. Bring your own or rent locally.

EPIC Wineries are surrounded by numerous shopping districts and Windsor only 20 minutes away each with their own stores and farmers markets to explore. Visit ShopYQG for a list and maps of boutique (and large) shopping districts to enjoy.
